A 茶室 (chashitsu) AT BELLEVILLE

End of Study Project

February 2013

Japan, Zen and tea ceremony

The project fllows on from my master degree’s report, about Zen Buddhism and Japanese traditional architecture. It broadens my preceding work on tea houses, which I identified as architectural elements influenced by Zen Buddhism.

The tea house and the Parisian garden: translating a spatial experience

Tea houses are ritual and walk spaces. Here, it also becomes the place of an architectural and cultural exchange.

The project has three goals:

  • a research work on the tea house essence

  • an architectural project for a sacred place in the city

  • enhancing the garden educational offer, a civic action to improve the urban environment
